AI voice generators and text to speech you can use free October 2026

Free minutes, downloads and who may use the voice, checked on the sites of 19 AI voice tools. Many free plans let you hear a voice but not keep it, and few allow business use.
Checked by hand on 16 October 2026, on each company’s own pages. All 69 quotes re-checked 22h ago and still there.

The short answer
If you read nothing else, read this.
- Most free minutes: Speechma, CapCut and Microsoft Clipchamp do not give a limit, and you can download. Of the monthly allowances, Cartesia's is the biggest: about 27 minutes. ElevenLabs gives about 10, Fish Audio about 7. NaturalReader gives 5 minutes a day of AI voices, to listen only.
- Without login: Speechma is the only one that says you need no account, and you can download MP3. ElevenLabs, Murf, WellSaid and Cartesia have small try-it boxes on their pages. Only Cartesia's Text to MP3 tool lets you download, and only short samples.
- Free for business: Speechma says all its audio is free for commercial use. CapCut says its text to speech audio can go in ads and YouTube videos; pick voices marked Commercial License. On ElevenLabs, Murf, Speechify, WellSaid, Fish Audio, Cartesia, Typecast and NaturalReader, free audio is not for business.
- Clone a voice free: Fish Audio does it from one short clip. Descript's free plan has limited voice clones; all its AI tools share 100 one-time credits. NaturalReader lists cloning on free, to listen only. ElevenLabs, Cartesia, Typecast and Kits.AI keep cloning for paid plans, Murf for Enterprise.
- Free to hear, not to keep: Murf (10 minutes, once), Speechify Studio (10 minutes) and NaturalReader let free users listen but not download. Kits.AI, which changes the voice in a recording, cannot download on free either.
- For a voicemail greeting: you need a file you can keep. Speechma (no account), CapCut, Microsoft Clipchamp and ElevenLabs give free MP3s. For a business line, use Speechma or a CapCut voice marked Commercial License.
- Closing or gone: Hume's text to speech ends on 13 November 2026. Resemble AI no longer sells voice AI to new customers. The websites of PlayHT and LOVO did not load when we checked.
I checked 19 voice tools. Free downloads are common. Free for business is rare.

A small independent site. It does not say whose voice technology runs its 580+ voices, so the promise on business use comes from Speechma alone. Up to 2,000 characters at a time, and you type a short code before each one. The audio stays in your browser until you download it. Only its API, for developers, is paid.

“Start using immediately - no signups, no logins, no personal information needed.”
“Download your generated audio files immediately in high-quality MP3 format.”

You need a free CapCut account. Some premium voices need Pro, and CapCut does not say which voices are free. For ads or paid work, turn on the Commercial License filter and use only voices marked for it. CapCut's blog gives Pro at $19.99 a month or $179.99 a year in US dollars; prices change by country, and some countries have a cheaper Standard plan.

“Yes, our AI text-to-speech feature is available for free.”
“After generating speech, CapCut free text to speech tool enables you to export audio in multiple formats, including AAC, FLAC, MP3, and WAV, for flexible use across different editing platforms and devices.”
“Yes, audio generated through CapCut's AI text-to-speech tool can be used for commercial purposes such as advertisements, YouTube videos, and brand promotions.”
“When creating audio with CapCut Web's TTS tool, you can activate the "Commercial License" option. This lets you legally use AI speech for professional projects, such as ads, product videos, and more.”

Text to speech inside Microsoft's video editor: you type a script in a video project, then export the voice as MP3, or the whole video with no watermark. It works in Edge or Chrome on a computer and as a Windows app; Microsoft stopped supporting the iPhone app on 9 June 2026. No Microsoft page we found says if free users may use the voices for business. Microsoft 365 Personal ($9.99 a month in the US) adds extras like 4K export; the voices are already free.
In their own words(4, checked 5 Oct)
“The AI text to speech feature is free for all Clipchamp video editor users.”
“Export and save AI voiceover transcripts and MP3 audio only for free.”
“Export videos in up to 1080p (full HD) video resolution for free, with no watermarks.”

The 10,000 free credits a month are shared by all ElevenLabs tools, music and sound effects too. If you publish free audio, put "elevenlabs.io" or "11.ai" in the title. Its abuse checks can switch off the free plan, for example if you use a VPN. On 5 October 2026 the first month of Starter was $1, until 18 October.
In their own words(4, checked 5 Oct)

Made for developers: you use it in its web Playground or through code, with a free account. Cartesia does not say how to download from the Playground. Making and playing voices is free, but every download spends credits, and the Free plan gets 3,000 for life, about 5 minutes. Free users get only the trial voices, in standard quality, as MP3 or WAV. Free downloads are for personal posts and must carry the line "Voice generated with Typecast" with a link to typecast.ai.

A video and podcast editor; its AI voices run on ElevenLabs models, its help center says. Every AI tool spends the same 100 one-time credits, and Descript does not say how many minutes of speech they make. A voice clone needs the person to record a consent statement in English. No page says if free audio may be used for business.

A tool for developers: Google says it is for business use, not for consumers. The free limits show only inside AI Studio. Outside the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, Google may use free text and audio to improve its products, and people may read them. Gemini Notebook (once NotebookLM) also makes free Audio Overviews you can download, but those are AI hosts talking about your sources, not your own script.
In their own words(4, checked 5 Oct)
“Google AI Studio usage is free of charge in all available regions”
“Uncompressed WAV file with a RIFF header (16-bit signed little-endian PCM, mono, 24 kHz default). Default for unary requests.”
“Use of Google AI Studio and Gemini API is for developers building with Google AI models for professional or business purposes, not for consumer use.”
“Upgrading from the Free Tier to the Paid Tier means linking a billing account and prepaying to add a minimum of $5 (or equivalent in other currencies) of credits to your account.”

The unlimited free voices are basic device voices, not AI voices, and you listen in the app. Its help center gives other free limits: 20,000 characters a day with Lite voices, and 4,000 shared by Plus and cloned voices. Cloned voices are for personal use, and each character counts as 2. Business use needs its separate commercial app, where downloads are paid too.

Murf calls it a free trial, but it has no end date: it ends when the 10 minutes are used, and editing then remaking audio uses minutes again. You can share a link to listen, but not download. The box on its text to speech page needs no sign-up, but only plays audio. One Murf page promises full commercial rights without naming a plan; we follow its home page, which says free has none.
In their own words(4, checked 5 Oct)

Studio is Speechify's voice over tool. Its AI voice page says no sign-up, but its buttons open Studio, which needs an account. A voiceover spends 1 credit a second, so 600 credits make 10 minutes, by our math. Speechify does not say if the credits come back each month. Its reading app is a separate plan: free with 10 basic voices, and MP3 downloads need Premium.
In their own words(4, checked 16 Oct)
“Free Plan $0 For getting started 600 Studio credits”
“Voiceover → 1 credit per second”
“Please note that the download option is not available in the free plan and an upgrade to either a monthly or annual subscription is required to be able to export or download the audio files.”

In their own words(4, checked 5 Oct)
“Yep! Voicemod has a totally free version with a rotation of voice changing options, a permanent clean mic effect to boost quality, and the ability to create a soundboard of your choice.”
“With the free plan, you’ll still get access to a rotating selection of free voices, with a minimum of 3 available at any time, plus unlimited Community Sounds at no cost.”
“Limited daily rotation of voices. Try new ones every day!”

Kits.AI changes the voice in a recording, mostly for music and singing; its text to speech link now leads to its home page. Rights are the same on every plan, but with no downloads a free user has nothing to publish. Its pages give different starting prices; we use the pricing page. Kits gives no refunds.
In their own words(4, checked 5 Oct)

“Free accounts will not be able to download and our Starter tier will be able to download up to 15 minutes of media from Kits per month with any remaining minutes rolling over to the next month.”
“What can I do on the Kits AI Free Plan? Try your first AI Voice Voice slots: 0 Conversion minutes per month: 15 Download minutes per month: 0 Professional voice cloning: Not included”

A post by its CEO on 13 August 2026 says Resemble went all in on deepfake detection, and its free sign-up is now for that. Its open voice models, Chatterbox, stay free, even for business, and can clone a voice from a short clip, but you install and run them yourself with Python. Some older Resemble pages still show voice plans; we go by the August post.
In their own words(3, checked 5 Oct)

“We're supporting our existing customers but not taking new ones.”
“Access our leading multimodal deepfake detection model and integrate it into your workflows.”

Questions
What is the best free AI voice generator?
It depends on what you need. With no account: Speechma, free MP3s you may use for business. With no limit given: CapCut and Microsoft Clipchamp. A set amount each month: ElevenLabs, about 10 minutes with MP3 downloads, not for business. To clone your own voice: Fish Audio, about 7 minutes a month. For developers, Cartesia gives about 27 minutes a month, and Google AI Studio has a free tier.
Is there a free AI voice generator without login?
Yes. Speechma says you need no sign-up, no login and no personal details. You type a short code for each clip, up to 2,000 characters, and download an MP3. ElevenLabs, Murf, WellSaid and Cartesia have small try-it boxes on their pages, but only Cartesia's Text to MP3 tool lets you download, and only short samples. Most other free plans need an account.
Which free text to speech lets me download MP3?
Speechma (no account), CapCut (also WAV, AAC and FLAC), Microsoft Clipchamp, ElevenLabs (128 kbps), Fish Audio (also WAV), WellSaid (3 minutes a month) and Descript (also WAV and M4A). Typecast gives about 5 minutes of downloads in total. Cartesia and Google AI Studio give files through their API. Murf, Speechify, NaturalReader and Kits.AI keep downloads for paid plans.
Can I use free AI voices on YouTube or for business?
On a few. Speechma says all its audio is free for commercial use. CapCut says its text to speech audio can be used in ads and YouTube videos; pick voices marked Commercial License. Google AI Studio is made for business use by developers. On ElevenLabs, Murf, Speechify, WellSaid, Fish Audio, Cartesia, Typecast and NaturalReader, free audio is not for business. Microsoft Clipchamp and Descript do not say.
Can I clone my voice for free?
Fish Audio says yes: one short clip is enough, with no paid plan, and you get about 7 minutes a month. Its free accounts get 3 public voice slots; private ones start with Plus. Descript's free plan has limited voice clones, from 100 one-time AI credits. NaturalReader lists cloning on free, to listen in its app only. ElevenLabs, Cartesia, Typecast and Kits.AI start cloning on paid plans, and Murf only on Enterprise.
Can I make a voicemail greeting with a free AI voice?
Yes, with a tool that lets you download the file. Speechma gives MP3s with no account. CapCut, Microsoft Clipchamp and ElevenLabs give free MP3s with an account. For a business line, pick one that allows business use: Speechma, or a CapCut voice marked Commercial License.
How we checked
Every fact here comes from the company’s own page, with the sentence it is in. The facts checked for this guide show the day we read them. The tables come from our catalogue, which re-reads each price page on its own. When a page does not say something, we write that, and we never guess. How we check
