Free AI clip makers and Opus Clip alternatives October 2026

Free minutes, watermarks, quality and how long you keep your clips, read on the pages of 18 tools that cut a long video into Shorts, Reels and TikToks. Some free plans stamp a logo, and some drop your clips after 3 days.
Checked by hand on 16 October 2026, on each company’s own pages. All 212 quotes re-checked 22h ago and still there.

The short answer
If you read nothing else, read this.
- Free minutes every month: quso.ai 75 (in some countries), Opus Clip and Vizard 60, reap 60 (1 hour), 2short.ai and Spikes Studio 30. A minute is a minute of the long video you put in, not of the clips you get. Opus Clip, Vizard, reap, Spikes Studio and quso.ai add a watermark.
- No watermark on free: WayinVideo says it adds none on any plan (100 minutes, once, 720p). 2short.ai says the same (30 minutes a month, 1080p, from YouTube links). CapCut says its clip maker adds none, but its free uses run out and it does not say after how many.
- Free once, then you pay: VEED's clip tool 1 try, Klap 1 video, Submagic 3 short videos (its clip tool is a $19 a month add-on), Descript 100 AI credits.
- Free on your own computer: OpenShorts and AutoClip are open source. OpenShorts run by you has no watermark and no cap. You need Docker or their app, a strong enough computer, and your own AI key or a local model.
- The catches: Opus Clip lets you export free clips for 3 days and Vizard deletes free projects after 3 days. Choppity's free plan lists no downloads. StreamLadder's AI clipper is a 7-day trial. Opus Clip Pro costs $29 a month ($14.50 billed yearly).
I read the pages of 18 clip makers. Free with no watermark is rare, but it exists.

OpusClip · checked 9 Oct 2026
Is Opus Clip free?
Yes, with limits. The free plan gives 60 minutes of video a month, adds a watermark, exports up to 1080p, and lets you export free clips for 3 days. New accounts start with a 7-day Pro trial, no card needed; its exports carry the watermark too. Paid plans start at $15 a month.
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly | Minutes a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 60 |
| Starter | $15 | Not offered | 150 |
| Pro | $29 | $14.50 | 300 |
Yearly is the price a month when you pay for the whole year at once ($174 for Pro). Opus Clip calls a minute a credit. Pro sells more minutes in packs. Read on its pricing page and help centre on 9 Oct 2026.
What the plan cards don’t say out loud
A minute is a minute of your long video. Opus Clip counts the length of the video you put in, not the clips you get. A 30-minute video uses 30 of your 60 free minutes. You can pick just a part of the video to use fewer.
Free clips last 3 days. After 3 days, free clips can no longer be exported. Download the ones you want the same day.
The trial has the watermark too. Videos you export during the 7-day Pro trial carry the OpusClip watermark. If you pay later, Opus Clip removes the watermark from your old free and trial projects.
Free takes YouTube and your files. The free plan imports YouTube links and files from your computer. Google Drive, Vimeo and Zoom start with Starter; Twitch starts with Pro.
Only 9:16 on free. Free and Starter make vertical clips only. Square and wide clips (1:1 and 16:9) need Pro.
Paid minutes expire. On a monthly plan, unused minutes last 60 days, so they roll over for one more month and then expire.

A desktop app. Cutting and framing run on your computer; picking the best moments uses a cloud AI with your own key (you pay its rates) or a local model with Ollama or LM Studio on a strong enough computer. It adds a short brand outro, which you can switch off in Settings. Intel Macs and Linux need Docker or the command line. The button opens its English guide on GitHub.

Questions
Is Opus Clip free?
Yes, with limits. The free plan gives 60 minutes of video a month, adds a watermark, exports up to 1080p, and lets you export free clips for only 3 days. Paid plans start at $15 a month; Pro is $29 a month, or $14.50 a month billed yearly.
Is there a free AI clip maker with no watermark?
Yes, a few. WayinVideo says it adds no watermark on any plan and gives 100 free minutes once, at 720p. 2short.ai says the same, with 30 minutes a month of YouTube videos (its page also says 15). CapCut says its clip maker adds none, but free uses run out. OpenShorts on your own computer adds none at all.
Which free AI clip maker gives the most minutes?
quso.ai (formerly vidyo.ai) gives 75 minutes a month at 720p, but only in some countries; in others you buy credit packs. Next come Opus Clip and Vizard with 60 minutes a month and reap with 1 hour. All four add a watermark. WayinVideo gives 100 minutes, but only once.
Is there an open-source Opus Clip alternative?
Yes. OpenShorts and AutoClip are free and open source (MIT) on GitHub. OpenShorts runs with Docker and needs 8 GB of memory or more; AutoClip is a desktop app for Apple Silicon Macs and Windows. Both need your own AI key or a local model to pick the moments.
Can I make clips from a Twitch stream for free?
Yes, with a watermark. reap takes Twitch links on its free plan, up to 1 hour a month. Opus Clip takes Twitch links only from its Pro plan. StreamLadder's AI clipper, ClipGPT, is free only as a 7-day trial; its free plan is a manual editor.
Can I paste a YouTube link instead of uploading?
Yes, on most. Opus Clip's free plan takes YouTube links, 2short.ai works from them, reap takes YouTube, Twitch, X and Vimeo links, and WayinVideo's free plan works only from links. VEED's clip tool cannot import YouTube links; you upload the file.
Does a free minute mean a minute of clips?
No. Opus Clip, Vizard, quso.ai, reap and WayinVideo count the length of the video you put in. A 45-minute podcast uses 45 free minutes, however many clips you keep.
