Resume builders that are really free October 2026

Free PDFs, watermarks and sign-ups, read on the pages of 19 resume builders. Some "free" builders let you make a resume, but not download it as a PDF.
Checked by hand on 5 October 2026, on each company’s own pages.2 of 72 have moved since, re-checked 22h ago.

The short answer
If you read nothing else, read this.
- Free PDF from a resume builder: FlowCV (unlimited PDFs for one resume, no watermark), Teal (unlimited PDFs), Kickresume (unlimited, with free options only), Resume.com, Reactive Resume and OpenResume. Rezi gives 3 free PDFs.
- Free in apps you may already have: Google Docs and Microsoft Word have free resume templates that save as PDF. So does Canva, if you skip Pro elements. Indeed makes a PDF resume from your profile, and LinkedIn saves your profile as a PDF, on a computer.
- No sign-up: only OpenResume says so, and your resume stays in your browser. Rezi and Resume.com mention use without an account, but not whether you can download that way.
- Only a TXT file on free: Resume.io, Zety, Resume Genius, LiveCareer and MyPerfectResume. A PDF needs a paid plan.
- A small first charge that renews: those five sell a trial for $1.95 or $2.95. Unless you cancel, it renews at $23.95 to $29.95 every 4 weeks.
- Free for a short time: Enhancv lets new accounts download for 7 days, with its branding. Novorésumé's help center says free Basic access lasts a limited time, but its pricing page says "Free Unlimited".
- To avoid paying: pick a tool with a free PDF. On Canva, Kickresume and Novorésumé, use only the free templates and items. If you start a paid trial, cancel before it ends.

Questions
Is there a resume builder that is really free?
Yes. FlowCV gives unlimited PDF downloads for one resume, with no watermark and no card. Teal gives unlimited PDFs, and Kickresume unlimited downloads if you use only its free options. Resume.com says it is completely free, and Reactive Resume says every feature is free. Google Docs and Microsoft Word also have free resume templates that save as PDF.
Which free resume builder needs no sign-up?
OpenResume. Its page says "No sign up required", and it keeps your data in your own browser. Rezi and Resume.com mention use without an account, but do not say if you can download that way. The other tools we checked need an account, or do not say.
Is there a free AI resume builder?
Teal's free plan checks your resume against a job description, with limited AI credits and unlimited PDFs. Rezi's free plan has limited AI tools, such as keyword targeting, and 3 PDF downloads. Reactive Resume has AI features, but they need your own AI provider key. Microsoft's resume pages offer Copilot help, without saying its free limits.
Why does my free resume download only as a TXT file?
Some builders keep PDF for paying users. On Resume.io, Zety, Resume Genius, LiveCareer and MyPerfectResume, the free plan downloads a plain text (TXT) file only. A PDF needs a paid plan, which starts with a $1.95 or $2.95 trial and renews every 4 weeks unless you cancel.
Are Resume.io and Zety free?
You can build a resume free on both, but free downloads are TXT only. Resume.io's trial is $2.95 for 7 days, then it "auto-renews to $29.95 billed every 4 weeks". Zety's is $1.95 for 14 days, then $25.95 every 4 weeks. Both renew unless you cancel.
Do free resume builders add a watermark?
FlowCV and Kickresume say their free downloads have no watermark. Canva adds one only to Pro elements, so pick free ones. Enhancv puts its branding on free resumes, and only Pro removes it. Novorésumé lists "No Watermark/Branding" as a Premium feature. Most other tools we checked do not mention watermarks.
How we checked
Every fact here comes from the company’s own page, with the sentence it is in. The facts checked for this guide show the day we read them. The tables come from our catalogue, which re-reads each price page on its own. When a page does not say something, we write that, and we never guess. How we check
