Free AI background removers October 2026

Free downloads, size, watermark and sign-up, read on the pages of 18 background removers. Many free results are tiny, and remove.bg closes on 1 December.
Checked by hand on 16 October 2026, on each company’s own pages. All 101 quotes re-checked 21h ago and still there.

The short answer
If you read nothing else, read this.
- Free at full size: Clipdrop gives 20 per 24 hours and lets you download them in HD. Fotor and Pixelcut also say free downloads are HD, with no watermark and no sign-up, but give no number. Erase.bg gives 3 HD downloads, once, after you sign up.
- Free but small: remove.bg, Removal.ai, Slazzer and Pixian keep free results to 0.25 megapixels, about 625 × 400 pixels. Removal.ai says there is no limit on how many. PicWish gives 50 a day, not in HD. Photoroom gives 100 exports a month, up to 2000 pixels on the web.
- Already on your device, free: iPhone and the Mac's Preview app remove backgrounds built in, and the Windows Photos app does it on your own PC.
- Not free: Canva keeps its Background Remover for paid plans, Picsart gives it free only in a 7-day trial, and Freepik gives 1 image a day.
- remove.bg closes on 1 December 2026. That day its website goes, its API moves to Leonardo.ai, and unused pay-as-you-go credits expire.
I read the pages of 18 background removers. Free is easy to find. Free and full size is not.

Yes, until 1 December 2026, and only for small images: up to 0.25 megapixels, made on the website, for personal use. On 1 December the website closes. Background removal moves to Canva, where it is a paid feature, and the API moves to Leonardo.ai.

What the plan cards don’t say out loud
It closes on 1 December. From 1 December 2026 at 9:00 CET the website is gone. Save anything you need from it before then.
Credits expire that day. Unused pay-as-you-go credits expire on 1 December 2026. Use them first, or do not buy more.
The API moves too. From 1 December 2026, background removal through the API moves to Leonardo.ai, also part of Canva.
Free is personal only. Free and no-account use are non-commercial. A photo for a shop listing needs credits.
Canva is not free for this. remove.bg sends you to Canva, whose Background Remover is included with paid plans.

How we checked
Every fact here comes from the company’s own page, with the sentence it is in. The facts checked for this guide show the day we read them. The tables come from our catalogue, which re-reads each price page on its own. When a page does not say something, we write that, and we never guess. How we check
