Free screen recorders with no watermark October 2026

Watermarks, time limits, quality and sound, read on the pages of 18 screen recorders. Some are free for good, some stop at 5 minutes, and some stamp every video.
Checked by hand on 16 October 2026, on each company’s own pages. All 171 quotes re-checked 21h ago and still there.

The short answer
If you read nothing else, read this.
- Free for good, no watermark, no time limit: OBS Studio (Windows, Mac and Linux), FlashBack Express and Free Cam (Windows) say so in writing. OBS also records your webcam and your computer's sound. Free Cam saves 720p WMV files only.
- Already on your computer: Windows 11 has Snipping Tool (Windows + Shift + R, no account), Windows 10 and 11 have Xbox Game Bar to record an app or game, and a Mac has Shift-Command-5. A Mac records its own sound only on macOS 27 or later.
- No watermark, but a limit: Clipchamp stops each recording at 30 minutes (as many as you like, 1080p), ScreenPal at 15 minutes (720p), Bandicam and Loom at 5 minutes. Loom keeps 25 videos, and free users cannot download them.
- Free, with a watermark: VEED (720p, burned into the video), Camtasia's free editor (every export) and Vimeo (when you embed). Movavi's 7-day trial stamps "Trial" on videos.
- Paid, with a trial: Snagit 15 days, Tella 7 days, both with no card. Camtasia's watermark goes only from $179.88 a year.
I read the pages of 18 screen recorders. Free, with no watermark and no time limit, is real. You just have to know which.

This changed with Bandicam 2027: recordings now have no watermark, but stop at 5 minutes. Bandicam 2024 and 2025 allowed 10 minutes and added a watermark, and Bandicam's main free page still says 10 minutes. Videos you export from its editor still get a watermark. Now called Camtasia Snagit. TechSmith calls the trial fully functional and lets you reset it once for 15 more days. It does not say in words whether trial videos carry a watermark. It suggests keeping each recording to 1 hour or less. The trial is for trying only, not for company projects, training or marketing. There is no monthly plan, and prices change by country.
In their own words(10, checked 8 Oct)
“The free trial of Snagit is a fully functional 15-day trial.”
“You can reset the trial one time to receive 15 more days of the trial period.”
“It is recommended to keep recordings to 1 hour or less for a single recording.”
“There is no built in limitation on how long Snagit is able to record for, however recording for longer than the recommended time can lead to problems with the video, or a failed video capture.”
“Sign in to your TechSmith account (or sign up for one) to start using the Snagit free trial.”
“Camtasia Snagit works on both Windows and macOS, allowing you to capture screenshots, record your screen, and create visual documentation regardless of which platform you use.”

“We do not collect payment information to start a free trial, so it will simply expire at the end of the period with no charges and no action required on your part.”

Questions
Is there a free screen recorder with no watermark and no time limit?
Yes. OBS Studio says it has no watermarks or other limitations, on Windows, Mac and Linux. On Windows, FlashBack Express and Free Cam say no watermark and no time limits; Free Cam saves 720p WMV files. ScreenRec has neither with a free account, but only for personal use and 50 recordings a month.
Does Windows have a free built-in screen recorder?
Yes, two. On Windows 11, Snipping Tool records any area you pick: press Windows + Shift + R. It saves an MP4 and needs no account. Xbox Game Bar, on Windows 10 and 11, records the app or game you are in with Windows + Alt + R, with your computer's sound and your mic.
Can I record my screen on a Mac for free?
Yes. Press Shift-Command-5 to open the Screenshot app, or use QuickTime Player. Recordings are saved as .mov files. To record your Mac's own sound you need macOS 27 or later; on older versions Apple's steps record only a microphone. OBS Studio is free on a Mac too.
Can a free screen recorder record computer sound?
Yes. OBS Studio, FlashBack Express, Free Cam, ScreenRec, Xbox Game Bar and Bandicam's free version record your computer's sound and your mic. ScreenPal's free plan records only your mic. Clipchamp on a personal account, and VEED on a Mac, take it only from a browser tab.
Is Loom free?
Yes, with limits. The free Starter plan gives 25 videos of up to 5 minutes each, at up to 720p, with no watermark. Free users cannot download their videos. Business costs $18 per user a month.
Does Bandicam's free version have a watermark?
No, not in Bandicam 2027: recordings have no watermark, but stop at 5 minutes. Bandicam 2024 and 2025 added a watermark and allowed 10 minutes. Videos exported from its editor still get a watermark, and work use needs a business licence.
Is Camtasia free?
No, not without a watermark. You can use the full Camtasia Editor for free, but every exported video carries a TechSmith watermark. The $39 Starter plan keeps it; Essentials, at $179.88 a year, is the cheapest plan that removes it.
